NHL picks today: Expert selections, odds for Game 2 between New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning
Game 1: Islanders 2, Lightning 1 (New York leads 1-0)
The Lightning have scored in every playoff game and entered Game 1 having scored at least two in all but one game this postseason, but the Islanders were less than a minute away from a shutout victory. Instead, New York settled for a 2-1 win with Brayden Point’s goal at 19:06 in the third period being rendered moot. The game was scoreless for 30 minutes before Mathew Barzal scored in the second period for the Islanders. Ryan Pulock doubled the lead in the third period. It’s a sharp contrast to Game 1 of the 2020 Eastern Conference Finals between the same two teams when the Lightning won 8-2.
